On Sunday, 5 November 2023, over 600 guests, comprising migrant workers, volunteers and community partners, attended the Together in Singapore Gala Dinner @ Kranji. Held at Kranji Recreation Centre, the dinner sought to honour and celebrate the invaluable contributions of migrant workers who play a vital role in Singapore. The event was an initiative by the Alliance of Guest Workers Outreach (AGWO)—a movement of Hope Initiative Alliance (HIA), and The Sowers Novena as a lead-up to International Migrants Month in December.
The dinner was graced by Guest of Honour Mr Alvin Tan, Minister of State for Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and Ministry of Trade and Industry. In his remarks, Mr Tan emphasised the importance of migrant workers’ physical and mental health. Dinner attendees enjoyed various activities, such as song and dance performances and took part in a lucky draw. Attendees also participated in a Singapore trivia quiz and a challenge in which each table was tasked to build the tallest tower using straws.
Community partners were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from Mr Tan in recognition of their efforts. We thank them for their contributions in providing care and support to migrant workers. Graduands of HIA Learning Academy, which offers classes for migrants to pick up skills, also received their Certificates of Completion.
